Shell has switched fleet management providers so that its 2,300 strong UK fleet will now be handled by fleet management company Alphabet.

Alphabet will deliver a package to all Shell's eligible drivers, both job-need users and drivers in the executive car programme. It is supplying the job-need vehicles, including an ambulance, on contract hire and the 2,000 vehicles in the executive fleet on contract purchase. It will also deal with the the accident management, daily rental, tyre management, re-licensing and day-to-day administration of Shell's fleet as well as managing the direct contact with drivers for service bookings and routine queries.

The new scheme includes an online tool to configure, price, order and track new vehicles. The system, which automatically recognises Shell employees when they log in, presents users with vehicles and option choices in accordance to Shell's car policy.

Tim Kensey, senior reward and policy adviser for Shell International, said: "[The online tool] also allows HR to authorise orders electronically and track fleet details at any point in time. This means that we are no longer reliant on receiving or asking for management information; we can get it immediately whenever we need to."
