PricewaterhouseCoopers is to restrict drivers' choice of new vehicles to those that emit a maximum of 265 grams of CO2 per kilometre, in an attempt to reduce the impact its fleet has on the environment.
Employees at the accountancy firm can currently select a car from an extensive list of models that includes green cars as well as gas-guzzlers via a contract hire scheme in its flexible benefits programme.
The new initiative is aimed at changing the behaviour of a small proportion of drivers who have chosen cars that are particularly damaging to the environment.
Carolyn Wilkinson, senior employee benefits manager, said: "Quite a small population will be affected by this, but they will know that we do a lot around corporate social responsibility and hopefully our drivers will understand our reasons for doing this."
The firm plans to continue in its clamp down on the use of vehicles with high levels of carbon emissions over the next 12 months by reviewing the CO2 cap and communicating to staff the potential tax breaks that are available for drivers of green vehicles.
