Employee Benefits poll: Under two-thirds (61%) of respondents believe that driverless cars will feature within organisations’ company car strategies.
A straw poll of www.employeebenefits.co.uk readers, which received 46 responses, also found that 28% of respondents think that driverless cars do not have a place within employers’ company car strategies, compared to 11% of respondents who do not know how driverless cars will factor into organisations’ future company car approaches.
In July 2017, the government launched a Connected Autonomous Vehicles research and development competition. This includes £25 million of funding for new projects, such as off-road driverless vehicles.
The project is linked to the Faraday Challenge, a four-year £246 million investment, which forms a key part of the government’s industrial strategy. This aims to tackle long-term challenges in the UK economy by increasing productivity and driving growth across the country. The strategy is funded by the £1 billion Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF).
The Faraday Challenge will be delivered through a series of competitions and will focus on the research, innovation, and scale-up of battery technology.
