Employee Benefits poll: Less than a quarter (23%) of employer respondents cite employee demand as a factor that would influence their decision to include driverless vehicles in company car schemes.
A poll of www.employeebenefits.co.uk readers, which received 31 responses, also found that 26% of respondents view duty of care and safety concerns as a key decision-making factor for the provision of autonomous vehicles through company car schemes.
Less than one-fifth (19%) of respondents identify purchase and maintenance costs as influencing the future inclusion of self-driving vehicles in company car schemes, 23% cite compliance and the development of the regulatory framework as a contributing factor, and just one in 10 (10%) view insurance costs as influencing their organisation's decision to offer driverless vehicles to employees.
In the Spring Budget 2017, Chancellor Philip Hammond announced an initial £270 million investment in the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF) for 2017-2018, which will be used to develop disruptive technologies, such as robotic systems and driverless vehicles.
