North Yorkshire County Council has cut its fleet's CO2 emissions through a salary sacrifice car scheme for 13,000 employees.
Since the scheme went live in April, average emissions across the 200 cars selected by staff have fallen to 112g/km of CO2 from the previous 156g. Cars available through the scheme, provided by Tuskerdirect, are all sub-120g/km of CO2 and include a Peugeot 107, an Audi A4 and a BMW 3 series.
John Robinson, benefits and reward consultant at the council, said: "We are hoping to save employees at least £1,000 a year on what they could get themselves."
