JVC has changed its contract hire provider to encourage more of its 120 fleet drivers to use environmentally-friendly cars.

Its new provider, Tuskerdirect, offers cars that emit no more than 169g of carbon dioxide per kilometre, which meets the requirements of the electronic firm's environmental policy. An online tool enables JVC's drivers to compare vehicle prices and assess their emission levels online.

David Diamond, UK human resources manager, said: "We [can] allow drivers to go online and compare vehicles. If the vehicle they select emits above 169g per kilometre, we ask them to make another choice."

The company has also introduced a 24-hour helpline to provide assistance for drivers in the event of an accident. Its sales force, middle managers, senior managers and directors are all eligible to participate in the contract hire scheme.
