Airbus has achieved a 4.5% take-up among eligible employees for its salary sacrifice car scheme since it was launched in July.
Employees can pay for perk cars out of their gross salary, saving on tax and national insurance (NI) on the lease price. On average, staff can save £70 to £80 on tax and NI Those choosing low-emission cars make further savings.
The salary sacrifice car scheme, provided by Tuskerdirect, is offered through the aircraft maker's flexible benefits scheme, which is available to its 1,000 managers.
Stephen Dumbleton, reward manager at Airbus, said: "We wanted to focus on being green. I know this is a bit ironic being an aircraft manufacturer, but being green is quite important to fit in with our company objectives. [Airbus] is doing everything it can, from a manufacturing point of view, to reduce carbon emissions in the atmosphere."
