Employees in the City of London took part in a sponsored lunchtime spin event to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
The Spin to Cure Diabetes event saw 33 teams of five take part in the eight-minute sprint challenge on static bikes outside the Royal Exchange in London on 10 June 2011.
Employees across the UK were invited by JDRF to take part in the challenge and raise money to help fund Type 1 diabetes research.
Macquarie Group Foundation, the national supporter of the programme, worked with JDRF to host a series of events in the UK this summer, in London, Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds and Salisbury, with Nuffield Health supporting the event as fitness partner.
Wayne Leamon, chief executive at Macquarie Bank International, said: “Macquarie is proud to be a key supporter of JDRF around the world.
“I was thrilled to be able to attend the event myself this year. I saw how successful the spin was first-hand and was delighted to see everyone getting involved with the spirit of the event in support of the important work JDRF does for people with Type 1 diabetes."
Jennifer Hughes, regional development manager at JDRF, added: “The event was a great success, all participants enjoyed spinning in the sun during their lunch breaks. Collectively, we hope to have raised a significant amount for research that will help the thousands of people in the UK with Type 1 diabetes.”
