Centrica is launching a bikes-for-work scheme to its 30,000 staff on 5 June, to coincide with World Environment Day.

The energy firm is hoping that the new perk will encourage more employees to cut their carbon footprint by cycling to work as opposed to taking the car or another mode of transport.

Craig Truter, reward programme manager at Centrica, said: "As a utility company, it is important that we take the environmental agenda seriously."

The firm is also keen to promote the health advantages of cycling and wants to help employees remain fit and healthy while at work.

"The new scheme also reinforces the health and wellbeing aspect of our employee benefits," added Truter.
