Drivers at bulk and ready-packed cement organisation Castle Cement who are members of the trade union Unite, have voted to accept a two-year pay deal.
The new pay deal, which will apply to approximately 240 employees across eight UK depot sites, includes a 3.7% pay increase effective from 1 January 2018 as well as a further pay rise in 2019, which will be between 3.4% and 4.4%.
The Castle Cement depots, which are part of the Hanson HeidelbergCement Group, affected by the pay deal include Avonmouth, Bellshill, Birmingham, Clitheroe, Kings Cross, Middlesbrough, Mold and Stamford.
As a result of the agreed pay deal, planned strike action scheduled for 26 and 27 February 2018 has been cancelled.
Adrian Jones, national officer for road transport at Unite, said: “After intense negotiations with the management, we were able to put a new and improved offer to our members which they overwhelmingly voted to accept.
“I would like to pay tribute to the solidarity our members have shown during this dispute, without which we would not have achieved this pay victory. The strike action due next week is now suspended and we wish to work constructively with the [organisation] going forward.”
