Only 19% of the British public are aware of auto-enrolment, according to research by Aon Hewitt.
The research, carried out by YouGov, found that those already in workplace pension schemes were more likely to have heard of auto-enrolment (37%), while only 16% of those who are not currently part of a workplace pension scheme were aware of auto-enrolment.
The research also found:
- 6% of respondents had seen the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) auto-enrolment advertising campaign.
- 18% of respondents who are not members of a pension scheme and were aware of auto-enrolment said they had received enough information on auto-enrolment.
James Patten, benefits design specialist at Aon Hewitt, said: “It is a concern that the individuals with the least knowledge of auto-enrolment appear to be those that are its primary target.
“Given the government has had limited success to date raising auto-enrolment’s profile, many employers will need to ensure they give due attention not just to the burdensome processing aspect of auto-enrolment, but how auto-enrolment is perceived by the workforce.”
