Nearly two-thirds (61%) of respondents are not satisfied with the benefits and rewards their employers offer, according to research by Sodexo Engage.
Its survey of 2,000 employees also found that 19% of respondents feel that the benefits and rewards provided by their employer are not relevant to them at all.
The research also found:
- 11% of respondents state that they would be most motivated by annual leave purchase, compared to 10% who would be motivated the most by cashback on high street and supermarket shopping.
- 9% of respondents would be most motivated by receiving high street discounts as an employee benefit, and a further 9% state that having access to holiday discounts would motivate them the most.
- 7% of respondents think they would be most motivated by health and wellbeing initiatives.
Iain Thomson (pictured), director of incentive and recognition at Sodexo Engage, said: “This research shows that there is a clear lack of understanding of how to best use benefits and reward to incentivise and engage employees. In particular, it’s worrying to see that one in five employees don’t think their benefits and rewards are relevant to them, as that’s exactly what they should be.
“It’s not all doom and gloom, however. Creating a flexible, personalised benefits and rewards programme doesn’t mean re-inventing the wheel. Ultimately, what the research shows is that it’s all about genuinely understanding the people that work for the business. Once employers know this, they can begin developing a programme that works for everyone, not just a few.”
