Adobe will be introducing extended maternity and paternity leave for its 6,500 US employees from November 2015.

Adobe maternity and paternity leave-2015

New mothers at the California-based firm will receive 26 weeks of paid leave, through a combination of parental and medical leave.

Under Adobe’s extended family leave package, primary caregivers and new parents will get 16 weeks of paid parental leave.

The benefit includes mothers and fathers who have become parents through childbirth, surrogacy, adoption or foster care.

This announcement follows news that Netflix now implements unlimited paternity and maternity leave and Microsoft US staff will be offered 12 weeks of fully-paid parental leave from November.

Adobe is also introducing up to 10 weeks of paid leave for surgery, childbirth, a medical emergency or illness, and it is giving employees up to four weeks of paid leave to care for a sick family member.

Donna Morris, senior vice president at Adobe, said: “At Adobe, we often say that our most important assets leave the building at the end of the day. Our employees are our intellectual property and our future.

“We join an industry movement to better support our employees while striving towards increased workforce diversity.

“Now we will better support all of them, across a spectrum of age, gender and experience, with a diverse mix of family needs and situations. The investment is unquestionably worth it.”
