Wessex Group, which employs 400 members of staff, has been accredited as a living wage employer.
The building services group’s employees, as well as its cleaners, third-party contractors and suppliers, will all receive at least the hourly living wage rate.
The rate is an independently calculated figure based on the cost of living. On 2 November, the Living Wage Foundation announced a rate increase for the living wage, rising from £7.85 an hour to £8.25.
The voluntary rate is significantly higher than the national minimum wage rate of £6.70 an hour. It also goes beyond the recently announced national living wage of £7.20 an hour, which comes into effect in April 2016.
Simon Morgan, director at Wessex Group, said: “Our ethos is based on treating all our staff well and offering good pay and conditions.
“We were quick to embrace the living wage and are pleased to be accredited by the Living Wage Foundation. Although it will really affect only a few junior administrators and our cleaners, who we employ directly and work a couple of hours each day, there will be third-party workers who will also benefit.”
