The recovering economic climate means the value of the shares or options held by reward and benefits managers has risen, according to the Employee Benefits Salary Survey 2010.

In the 2009 survey, just 4% of respondents held options or share worth more than £50,000. in 2010 15% do so.
In addition, in 2009 17% held shares or options worth between £20,000 and £50,000, in 2010 27% do so.

At the other end of the scale, 8% of respondents hold shares or options worth less than £1,000 (down from 16% a year ago), while just 1% hold these to the value of £1,001-£2,500 (again, down from 16% a year ago).

Nearly one-in-three (29%) reward and benefits managers hold shares or share options in their employer. Of these, 50% received shares or options granted to them as part of their remuneration package or through an employee share scheme.

Employee Benefits magazine surveyed 466 people responsible for managing compensation and benefits for staff in their own organisations for the Employee Benefits Salary Survey 2010. The majority (80%) of respondents were from the private sector, while 17% were from public sector organisations and 3% were in the voluntary sector.
