More than 80% of respondents to Evans Cycles’ annual Ride2Work survey said joining a bikes-for-work scheme was very appealing in the current economic climate.

The survey polled over 300 staff, who have used a bike scheme in the last six months.

It found the main reasons for joining a scheme are: to cycle to work, to get a new bike with the savings, to spread the cost by using their salary, and to get fitter. Some 80% said they had become fitter since taking up bikes for work, 60% had reduced their travel costs and 55% said they were happier.

Mark Brown, head of Evans’ Ride2Work, said: “In the run-up to the Olympics, this benefit will be in high demand.”
