The Royal National Rose Society pension scheme has appointed Pitmans Trustees as independent trustee to its final salary retirement and death benefits scheme.
Chief executive of the gardening charity, Roz Hamilton, said: “We decided to appoint a professional trustee on the advice of our accountants who were strong supporters of having an independent professional assist with the governance of the scheme.”
Richard Butcher, Managing director of Pitmans Trustees, commented: “This is a great appointment for us. This scheme is probably our smallest active scheme with assets of less than £1m but it faces the same challenges as its larger counterparts and doesn’t have anywhere near the same level of support or resource.
"In this case, there are the added challenges that come with being a charitable organisation. We are well equipped to help the scheme address these challenges and we are confident we will have a considerable and positive impact on the scheme.”
Hamilton added: “We chose Pitmans Trustees because they immediately demonstrated that they had the knowledge, experience and, most importantly, the ideas to help us resolve our legacy pension scheme issues.”
