Supermarket retailer Walmart Canada is rewarding 90,000 employees an appreciation bonus to recognise the efforts of full-time and part-time employees during the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.
To thank store and supply chain employees, Walmart paid full-time employees a $200 bonus, and part-time employees a $100 employees along with their March pay.
Additionally, the organisation is offering store and supply chain employees a $2.00 pay rise to add to their hourly rates, effective from 3 April 2020, this will be a pay increase for long as the pandemic lasts.
Walmart Canada will also be offering every employee a 10% discount for two shopping days in April 2020. All employees will also have access to a live online physician at no cost.
The employer is also providing two-weeks worth of replacement pay for employees who have to self-isolate, as well as additional supplemental income for those with confirmed cases who are must stay at home beyond two weeks.
A spokesperson at Walmart Canada said: "Our Associates truly show our Walmart spirit by rising to the challenge of these unprecedented times. Each member of our team is going above and beyond to organise and deliver products to stores, ensure shelves are stocked, checkout is fast and customers have access to all their family needs.
"We are also grateful to our associates’ spouses and loved ones who have had to take on extra responsibilities - particularly with many schools and daycares closed."
