Thompsons Solicitors introduces reduced pay and hours for staff by 20%

Law firm Thompsons Solicitors is reducing pay and hours for its employees to deal with the financial ramifications of the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.

Effective immediately until August 2020, the organisation will reduce hours and pay by 20% for senior lawyers and business heads.

Additionally, the organisation will be reducing the pay and hours of lawyers and paralegals by 15%, and employees in administrative roles by 10%.

Employees that are affected by these pay cuts will still continue to receive all other benefits.

In May 2020, Thompsons Solicitors announced it was reducing partners pay by 33%.

Tom Jones, head of policy at Thompsons Solicitors, said: “Unusually we are an unionised law firm and through negotiations with the GMB, a proposal was put to the staff for a reduction in hours and pay. The reduction, which will be for three months from June to August [2020] during which time all will work from home, was overwhelmingly supported in a staff vote. Partners have already taken a 33% cut in their remuneration from 1 May 2020.

“The firm really appreciates the ongoing support and solidarity of our staff allowing it to navigate cash flow in this challenging period.”
