The Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) will reward all nurses, doctors and members of cleaning staff with a special payment for working on the front-line in Covid-19 (Coronavirus) wards.
The reward will be for all workers across all hospitals in Greece, with the appreciation payment totalling $7.5 million (£6.8 million).
The payment will affect 4,600 workers in country and will be introduced as part of its first round of grants in SNF's $100 million (£91.2 million) global Coronavirus relief fund, that will provide additional financial support, health and wellbeing help, psychological support, and provide an emergency community fund, to ensure that the financial wellbeing of employees working in hospitals in Greece.
Andreas Dracopoulos, co-president at SNF, said: “For us, supporting all of the doctors, nurses, and cleaning staff on the front-line at all referral hospitals in Greece was, and remains to be, a matter of top priority. In them, we see real, everyday heroes who risk their lives to save the lives of others. This gesture of appreciation, which will be distributed equally to all, is a genuine ‘thank you’ from all of us. It is the least we could do for all those who offer so much.”
