Supermarket chain Sainsbury's is rewarding 116,400 employees with a 10% bonus, to recognise their efforts dealing with the increasing demand for supplies during the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.
The bonus, which willequate to 10% of employees’ salary based on hours they worked over a four-week period,is the second special payment that Sainsbury's employees have received during the pandemic.The organisation rewarded employees with an initial10% bonus at the start of the pandemic in April 2020.
All front-line hourly paidemployees working in retail, transport and warehouse teams at Sainsbury's and Argos retail stores are eligible for the bonus payment.
Simon Roberts, chief executive at Sainsbury's, said: "I know this has been an incredibly challenging year for everyone, so thank you for being patient with us. Our employees continue to come to work on the front-line daily to help keep the nation fed and I am extremely grateful to them for everything they are doing day in, day out to serve all of our customers."
