Australia Post pays 33,000 employees recognition bonus

Australia Post will give its 33,000 employees an average payment of $600 (£329) to reward them for their efforts during the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.

All employees within the business ranging from post office employees to mail processing staff and call centre employees, will receive the one-time bonus due to be paid this week. As well as full-time and part-time permanent staff, casual workers and fixed-term contractors will also received the payment.

The 1% bonus payment is based upon employees 2019/2020 salaries, with a minimum bonus payment of $100 (£54). The bonus will be awarded via a $250 (£137) Mastercard gift card.

Additionally, employees that are employed within organisations that are affiliated with Australia Post through enterprise agreements such as StarTrack, Decipha, SecurePay and PoliPay, will also receive a 1% bonus based on their annual salaries.

Christine Holgate, chief executive and managing director at Australia Post, said: “Australia Post has not closed for a single day during the Coronavirus pandemic and this has only been possible due to our hardworking posties, post office workers, parcel and mail processing staff, parcel delivery partners, call centre staff and our teams across the country."

“With Victoria now dealing with stage four restrictions, I’m so proud how our team has adapted so quickly to rise to the challenge and support each other so we can continue delivering across the country.

“Many of our people continue to serve customers and visit people’s doorstops during these uncertain times, recognising the need for critical services and supplies to continue to be delivered. Australia Post is really connecting the country during this pandemic.

“I am so pleased to include our valued partners in this payment – our post office licensees and our delivery drivers. It truly is a team effort.”
