Morgan Sindall Construction becomes living wage employer

UK infrastructure organisation Morgan Sindall Construction has become a real living wage employer, accredited by the Living Wage Foundation.

The organisation now commits to paying its 6,400 employees a minimum of £9.30 per hour, or £10.75 in London, as part of its dedication to improving employer standards in the construction industry. The current legal minimum requirement that an organisation must pay its employees currently stands at £8.75 per hour for employees over 25.

The real living wage is an independent rate calculated according to the costs of living. It provides a voluntary benchmark for organisations to ensure that staff earn a wage that goes beyond the government's legal requirements.

Morgan Sindall Construction will educate its workforce on the upcoming changes through a week of events that include blogs and webinars, and joins 6,000 employers that have committed to paying employees the real living wage.

Pat Boyle, managing director at Morgan Sindall Construction, said: “As an employer, we are committed to supporting sustainable communities, both by creating exceptional buildings and facilities and through employment that comes with a fair working wage. This accreditation reflects that ethos, and we would encourage our employees from across the construction industry to join us in becoming a living wage employer.

“We are proud to have the best team in the industry, and this announcement also serves as an investment in the future, reflecting that Morgan Sindall Construction is where hard work will be matched with an above average wage, allowing individuals, our organisation and the communities in which we operate to flourish.”
