D Young staff take part in charity run

EXCLUSIVE: Employees of D Young and Co took part in a charity run as part of the law firm’s focus on health and wellbeing.

The firm has taken part in the JP Morgan Chase Corporate Challenge in Battersea Park for several years, but the 2012 run saw its highest attendance yet, with 40 of its 180 staff participating on 17 July.

In 2011, only 15 D Young and Co staff took part in the race. HR manager Jennifer Mead said: “Last year we had a poor turnout and we were trying to think of ways to get staff to engage more.”

The firm promoted the race in newsletters and ran internal competitions, putting staff into teams so they could compete against each other.

D Young paid the entry fees, which go to charity, and for staff from its Southampton office to travel to London.
The firm plans to introduce a range of health and wellbeing workshops, which it will tailor based on the results of an upcoming employee survey.

“We want to find out what people want around health benefits,” said Mead. “We are also looking to tackle some key health and wellbeing issues, including healthy back, healthy eating and exercise.”

In summer, the firm also runs tennis and badminton leagues open to all staff.
