Delegates on board The Oriana attending the HR Forum have been reminded that the success of any company depends on its employees, and that the role of recognition cannot be overlooked.
In the session, Employee engagement: Re-inspiring and empowering staff, delegates were encouraged to create a culture where all employees feel that their contributions at work are valued, in order to help engage and retain staff.
Moira Nangle, director for organisational development at Virgin Atlantic Airways (VAA), explained that the line manager is key if employees are to find their value within an organisation
Andrew McMillan, customer services manager at John Lewis Partnership, explained that it was vital to be 100% truthful and 100% kind to staff.
He said: "When our partnership was formed in the 1920's looking after staff [through reward and recognition] was seen as just as important to the firm as looking after our customers."
