Greggs’ staff are to share in a bonus pot of £5.8 million after it made record profits of £52.5 million on sales of £662 million last year.

The bakery retailer, which now has 1,487 shops, will award its 16,800 employees a share of the pot through its profit sharing scheme.

Derek Netherton, chairman of Greggs, said: “I cannot thank our staff enough for the enthusiasm and passion that they display throughout the business, with our customers and in the support that they give to the wider community.

“I am delighted that 16,800 qualifying employees are sharing in a record £5.8 million through our long-established profit sharing scheme in recognition of the efforts they have all made to deliver record results under very challenging trading conditions.”
