Grant Thornton staff have chosen Cancer Research UK as the firm’s official charity. The charity was voted in as the chosen beneficiary until summer 2012, with staff pledging to raise £125,000 during the period.
Offices across the UK were filled with employees supporting the charity by wearing red and donating to the charity on 1 December.
Margaret Bowler, head of corporate responsibility, said: "We want to create an environment where all our people are inspired and empowered to contribute positively to our business and the wider community and we are delighted to announce Cancer Research as our partnership charity of choice for the next year and a half.
"'Wear it red day' on 1 December was a terrific kick-start to our campaign to raise funds for the charity in aid of their life-saving work and we will be using Christmas and related festivities as a springboard into getting our partnership underway. We have several fundraising campaigns and fun activities planned, providing exciting opportunities for staff to get involved and help us achieve our fund-raising target."
Jools Tait, UK partnerships director at Cancer Research, added: "We are delighted to be selected as Grant Thornton's new charity partner for 2010-2012.
“The firm's support will allow us to fund more groundbreaking research into cancer treatments and to help cancer patients across the UK. We look forward to some exciting fundraising campaigns over the next 18 months.”
