The government has launched a call for evidence as part of its consideration of the integration of the operation of income tax and national insurance contributions (NICs).

Chancellor George Osborne had announced the intention to consult on the integration of income tax and NIC in the March budget.

The informal consultation will be open for comment from 11 July to 19 September. Formal consultation on the reform options will take place at the close of the call for evidence.

Karen Thomson, associate director of policy, research and strategic visibility at the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP), said: “We thoroughly welcome this news from the government.

“We appreciate that payroll professionals have enough on their plate to deal with, however it is vital that the CIPP policy team gain a fuller understanding of how this is going to impact them in the workplace.†

“We hope members use this opportunity to tell us their concerns so that as always, we can work with government on their behalf.”
