Employers are investing large amounts of money in their employee benefits package, yet are failing to communicate the value of these perks to staff. As a result, a quarter of respondents to Origen's 2006/2007 Annual employee benefits survey believe that their employees are indifferent towards or attach little value to the non-salary perks they receive, and only 13% believe that they are highly valued by staff.
Despite spending 20%-30% of their business' total outgoings on their benefits package, nearly three-quarters (71%) of respondents said that their communications strategy is no more than satisfactory, while a further 21% rated it as poor. Just 4% of respondents believed their communications process was excellent. But despite these figures, employers are aware of the importance of communication.
More than three-quarters (77%) said that ongoing communication with staff was essential if they were to gain a return on investment on their benefits expenditure.
