Editor’s comment:

Several government initiatives and new pieces of legislation over the past 12 months have increased many employers’ focus on group risk benefits. The removal of the default retirement age, the Welfare Reform Bill 2011 and the government’s review into sickness absence have pushed the use of group risk and rehabilitation benefits up many employers’ agendas.

For example, 27% of respondents to this year’s survey said they had reviewed their return-to-work/rehabilitation strategy in the past 12 months in response to fit notes and the fit-for-work scheme. And 36% said they would have to review their absence strategy in the next 12 months in response to the Welfare Reform Bill 2011 and the government’s review into sickness absence.

As always, we have carried out a prize draw among our respondents. Charlotte Pusch, group leader, compensation and benefits at Amdocs, is the lucky winner of £100-worth of Marks and Spencer vouchers.
