Firstly, I would like to wish you all a successful and happy 2014.
I realise that the cynics among you, will mutter that it is only a change of date and no reason to get all excited. The world will not change just because there is now a ‘4’ at the end of the year number (which is different anyway in different calendars for other cultures).
Technically, that is correct. However, we can choose to make it something to be excited about.
We all need a time to reflect on where we are. To reflect on what has gone before, and what our hopes and dreams are for what lies ahead.
Think of it as a big personal development review, but without your line manager involved or HR. New Year’s resolutions are your objectives.
So as we start the year, I recommend (even the cynics), do a little list of New Year resolutions, not just for your ‘personal’ self, but also for your ‘work’ self. When you look back in a year’s time what will you have done through your work that will have made a difference to you, your team, your organisation, perhaps even your community?
I started small: this time last year I resolved to write a blog every Friday (and here it is, still going). This year I have to be far more ambitious. The economy is starting to grow and the rewards will be reaped by those who rise to meet the new challenges.
Good luck with yours’. Shall we regroup next year to see how we all have done?
