The schemes will be part of the university’s voluntary benefits scheme, which was introduced in 2013 with provider P&MM Employee Benefits.

Almost 600 employees have taken up the scheme since it was introduced.

It includes childcare vouchers, a bikes-for-work scheme and retail vouchers, which include a range of cash-back options, high street vouchers and re-loadable credit cards.

When the scheme was first introduced, it was communicated via channels, including posters, emails, newsletters, social media and two launch days.

De Montfort University has been shortlisted for the award ‘Best communications – small employer’ at the Employee Benefits Awards 2014.

A spokesperson for De Montfort University said: “The take up has been great. We are committed to creating an environment where our employees enjoy working.

“We strive to reward and recognise their contributions, but also know that they have a life beyond work. We offer a range of options to ensure that staff benefit from a healthy work-life balance.”

James Malia, managing director of P&MM Employee Benefits, added: “Moving forward, De Montfort University aims to generate further savings for staff and introduce as many options as possible for them to benefit from the P&MM scheme.

“Since it is a young institution hoping to engage staff in an innovative way, social media will continue to be one of the key communication tools.

“This is a reflection of a new approach in the education industry to maximise staff performance and satisfaction.”
