Most employers will be throwing Christmas parties this month, with a fifth (80%) of bosses saying no to the work festive night out, according to research by the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP).
The annual survey found that more than half (56%) of respondents are getting paid early this month. Nearly a quarter (24%) of employees getting paid early have said the early payday will mean they will struggle financially in January.
Diana Bruce, senior policy liaison officer at the CIPP, said: “Many businesses have been unable to give their staff a bonus or a pay rise over the last year so it is more important than ever that employers find alternatives to make sure employees are rewarded for their hard work and loyalty.
“What better than some festive celebrations? Those organisations that are holding a Christmas staff party can take advantage of the £150 tax-free threshold per employee. It is also a well-known fact that romance commonly blossoms in the workplace so employers could very well be helping to facilitate more than a little yuletide cheer.”
