Energy firm E.On UK incentivises its staff to choose environmentally friendly modes of transport when travelling
to work.
Employees who car share, take public transport or cycle to work are rewarded with green travel points, which can be used to obtain discounts on products from a variety of retailers. The scheme is used at several of the company's UK sites, particularly those where parking is limited and public transport links are poor.
Workers who take part are provided with cards that they swipe at their site’s green terminals, which calculates how many points they should be awarded for their journey. Carbon offsetting and payroll giving are also made available through the firm’s flexible benefits scheme.
Ant Donaldson, senior specialist – employee benefits at E.On UK, says: “Everything we do, we have to consider the sustainability aspect of it, particularly from a carbon emissions perspective."
