Cancer Research UK has made its staff cafés and restaurants cashless as a precursor to introducing salary sacrifice on food.
The charity will have five sites in and around London with cashless restaurants or cafés, serving around 1,000 staff. Tom Russell, director of strategic resourcing and reward, said: "We have an ID card which also doubles up as your card that you can load money onto and then pay with when you get to the counter. We are now doing some early work on whether you can do salary sacrifice on it."
The charity is also developing an online benefits micro site that will be able to suggest perks that are relevant to staff. The system is due to go live in the autumn and will operate by segmenting staff into different interest groups once they have filled in a questionnaire.
Cancer Research also plans to offer access to a network of children's nurseries which can be paid for by salary sacrifice. This will be available to the charity's 3,800 staff including those working in its retail chain, and in fundraising.
Access to a service called Family Life Solutions from Accor is also planned. This will give staff advice on caring for children and disabled and elderly relatives and guidance on care facilities.
Total reward statements are also on the agenda with trials planned for senior management. However, it has not been decided whether or not they will be supplied online.
