EXCLUSIVE: The University of Lincoln has launched its fourth annual Global Corporate Challenge.

The challenge, which began in May and will continue until September, will include a range of activities that focus on employee health and wellbeing.

The university had four teams when it first participated in the programme in 2009, but has grown to 42 teams in 2013.

Ian Hodson, reward and benefits manager at University of Lincoln, said: “It’s about raising awareness about wellbeing, making a difference in your daily lifestyle and embedding a change. We package it with lots of quirky things.”

The university is to roll out a range of initiatives, including a walk for charity, academic presentations, a recipe swap club, fitness classes, a healthy-eating demonstration and osteoporosis checks at the end of June.

“It is quite easy for organisations to plough money into having a healthy-eating day, but the next day people will go back to what they’ve always done,” said Hodson. “There are no results in it. With this, over 16 weeks, people are encouraged to do an exercise class, go for a lunch-time walk, or park further and walk in.

“Get your 10,000 steps how ever you have to do it. It’s all about embedding change. It’s a really fun way of doing it.”
