The HR community has an important role to play in putting pressure on pensions providers and advisers to push down charges and create better value, according to Joanne Segars, chief executive of the National Association of Pension Funds (NAPF).

It is essential that HR managers look at pensions charges when selecting a provider for auto-enrolment, said Segars in a video interview during the annual NAPF conference in Liverpool in October.

HR managers need to be sure that the charges on the scheme deliver value for money for both the employer and the employee, she added. “It is a core part of what HR managers should be looking at when selecting an auto-enrolment provider, so that it delivers a good pension at the end of the day.”
