Finalists in the Employee Benefits Awards’ category, ‘Best international or expatriate benefits’, showcased different approaches across different regions, said Carol Baylis, Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) total rewards director at Hitachi Data Systems, in an interview with Debbie Lovewell-Tuck, deputy editor of Employee Benefits.
She said: “There were a couple of international assignment projects that had been presented, and the interesting thing was that there were different approaches to those.
“It definitely brought forward different ways of looking at things, which is interesting, but also makes it harder to judge, because you’re not looking at like for like.”
Among the entries, Baylis recognised one particular issue that she has grappled with herself at Hitachi Data Systems.
“How do you get more harmonisation on benefits throughout the region? In the UK, it’s easy. We have a larger group of people. But when you go to the smaller countries …”
The winners of the Employee Benefits Awards 2014 will be announced during a lunch-time ceremony at the Artillery Garden at the HAC, London, on 27 June.
