Some 88% of employers believe absenteeism is still a big problem in UK organisations, according to a survey conducted by www.hrlaw.co.uk, Fox Williams' (FW) online employment law information service.

More than half the respondents to the survey, from more than 2,500 businesses, report that absenteeism has increased in the past two years. Just 8% felt that the problem had decreased during this period. Stress is still a key issue with 76% of respondents reporting that they currently have 20 or more employees signed off with stress.
