It has recently been announced by the Department for Work and Pensions that former CBI Director General John Cridland CBE has been appointed as independent reviewer of State Pension Age (SPA).
A regular review of SPA is necessary to ensure that the retirement age remains relevant in a world where society and longevity are constantly changing. The SPA date is of course important for the world of employee benefits, as this age is still often used as a guide by employers and the benefits industry in the design of many benefit offerings.
This review will not however change the existing SPA timetable to 2028.
