This month, betting firm William Hill will finally launch a voluntary benefits scheme for its 13,500 UK employees, after a delay of more than six months.

It initially intended to launch a scheme last summer, when it told employees about the plan. However, the launch was delayed to ensure benefits were not affected by changes introduced under age discrimination legislation, which came into force last October.

HR manager Ben Hope said: "We wanted to ensure the new benefits were up to date with any changes [in law], so we waited for a period."

To provide perks that employees valued, the company questioned staff to find out which types of discounts they would use. As a result, the benefits on offer include discounted gym and health club membership, retail vouchers and cut-price travel offers.

Details of the scheme have been communicated to William Hill's staff, with the help of provider AIG Employee Benefits. "There will be a number of benefits advisors from AIG going around, meeting staff and explaining the benefits that are now on offer," said Hope.
