Westminster City Council has held a series of management meetings about sickness absence in order to determine how well it is coping the issue, and what else it needs to do to reduce the number of sick days taken each year by staff.

The sessions involved members of the HR team, line managers from a range of departments, occupational health representatives, and a member of organisational development.

Trevor Webster, strategic HR manager at the council, said: "We are thinking about wellness and what we can do to promote a healthy workforce. We have discussed things like health and safety risk assessments, and flu inoculations."

The council's HR team will now put together a list of cost-effective proposals and options.
