The University of Strathclyde is rolling out an employee wellbeing and sustainability programme to all employees in October 2018, following a successful five-month pilot period.
The Jump programme, provided by Green Rewards, was originally launched for 250 employees in February 2018. This enabled staff participating in the pilot to use the programme’s web-based platform or app to track various wellbeing and sustainability-related activities; staff would then earn green points for the activities they had completed.
Employees can earn green points for tracking their activity in areas such as 'get fit at work', 'sustainable commute' and 'report your recycling'. Employees who receive the most green points are able to win individual voucher prizes, while teams with the most green points can award a charity donation.
At the end of the five-month pilot, participating employees had completed 1,500 hours of exercise, avoided 15,000kg of CO2 emissions by using sustainable modes of transport for their commutes and saved 2,939 disposable cups from entering a landfill site.
A total of 12 employees each received a £10 voucher for earning the most green points during the pilot period and the top performing team, RaKET, awarded local charity Refuweegee a £130 donation.
A survey conducted at the end of the pilot also found that 96% of employees using Jump have learned more about sustainability, and 92% have succeeded in improving their sustainable behaviours.
Spela Raposa, environmental resources manager at the University of Strathclyde, said: “Jump is facilitating positive changes on campus; it is exciting to see employees engaged and helping to achieve the University’s environmental goals.”
The Glasgow-based university implemented Jump to align with its existing sustainability activities and to reinforce its commitment to creating an environmentally friendly and inclusive campus.
The University of Strathclyde is the eighth UK university to launch the Jump programme. Others include Anglia Ruskin University, Bournemouth University, Bristol University, Chichester University, University of Winchester, Reading University and Swansea University.
