Something for the weekend…
Postal organisations’ fleets are often imagined as having red vans or bikes to help employees get the daily post through letterboxes.
But that image may just be changing along with postal organisations’ travel policies following the launch of an eco-friendly unicycle.
Up to 100 employees at Whistl, formerly TNT Post, have been experimenting with the AirWheel unicycle on their rounds in London, Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham.
Postmen and women have been gliding around on the new device, which has a top speed of 12mph.
It also has a range of 28 miles and recharges when it goes downhill.
While the gadget may just be the latest travel initiative for employers to consider, it comes at a cost: £799 to be precise. Perhaps employers could look to save on costs by seeing if it could be provided via salary sacrifice.
And, if employees also used it to get to and from work, it could also help boost their organisation’s green credentials.
