Salaries in the UK dipped last month to levels last seen in November 2012, according to research by recruitment website Reed.co.uk.

The Reed salary index tracks the number of job opportunities and the salaries on offer compared to the previous month and against a baseline of 100 set according to the national average salary of £33,414 in December 2009. In June 2013, the salary index fell to 97, from 98 in May 2013.

The research also showed that recruitment consultants received the highest salaries for June 2013, with the index reaching 120 points for the profession.

In contrast, social care workers received the lowest salaries in June 2013, with the index scoring 70 points, down from 73 in May 2013.

James Reed, chairman of Reed.co.uk, said: “We cannot afford to stutter in what has been a smooth path to recovery in the labour market since the start of the year.”
