Thorpe Park Leeds business park has introduced a new monthly bicycle health check service for the 4,500 employees working on site.
More than 60 organisations have offices at the site, including Atkins, BAM, IBM, Kier, Laing O’Rourke, National Grid, and United Utilities.
The business park has launched the mobile Dr Bike service as part of its sustainable travel plan and ParkLife initiative, managed by TPS Transport Consultants, which aims to foster a culture of engagement on site and provide travel support to staff.
The scheme gives employees access to a free bike health check and security chipping service, provided by a trained mechanic.
Thorpe Park Leeds plans to expand the initiative to include free cycle maintenance sessions for employees, helping them to learn the basics about how to maintain their bikes.
To support these measures and engage employees with cycling, a Bicycle User Group (BUG) has been established. This group of regular cyclists provides feedback and ensures that the measures introduced have the biggest impact on staff.
Mark Jackson at Scarborough Group International, which owns the site in partnership with Legal and General Capital, said: “At Thorpe Park Leeds we recognise that a great working environment isn’t just about the building you are based in, it’s about the community you are a part of."
