The US Justice Department spends thousands of dollars on muffins for staff

It appears that the US Justice Department believes the way to its employees’ hearts is through their stomachs.

Apparently, it spent $4,200 on 250 muffins for staff attending a conference at a hotel in Washington, DC.

The $16-a-piece (£10) luxury snacks will no doubt have contributed to workers’ capacity to develop their own muffin-tops.

Employers wanting to offer their staff luxury muffins should refer to recipes in BBC Good Food and Olive magazines. According to these publications, the snacks can be sweetened with the world’s most expensive manuka honey.

Dark chocolate, dried blueberries and macadamia nuts (125g for £4.92) can then be added. The muffins could also be covered in 24-carat edible gold leaf, although this only costs 75p a sheet.

This brings the whole production cost up to £1.87-a-piece ($2.89) – a far cry from the $16 forked out by the US Justice Department.
