Some employees have their lunch paid for by their employer, but one member of staff will be enjoying Michelin-starred food during his six-month mission to the International Space Station.
While some workers may be lucky enough to receive a free lunch at work as an occasional benefit, and most astronauts have to make do with specifically formulated subsistences to consume, British astronaut Major Tim Peake will be treated to some interstellar fine-dining courtesy of Heston Blumenthal.
The menu has been created with the assistance of school pupils who suggested a ‘rocket lolly’ comprising a three course meal of tomato soup, curry and Eton mess; beef stew with asteroid dumplings and chocolate mousse with ’space dust’ popping candy.
Peake will also enjoy a Sunday roast in a helmet-shaped pie and an array of bite-sized desserts in the shape of planets.
Peake said: “It’s going to be a great experiment. I’ve tested a few of the dishes and they are delicious, so it’s one of the things I am really looking forward to when I get up there.”
