The Law Society has introduced performance-related pay, a flexible benefits scheme and pensions salary sacrifice for its 1,400 staff, following a 15-month-long project to overhaul perks.
Annual pay increases, previously linked to length of service, will now be reviewed against objectives set according to employees' job roles. Bonuses for high performers have also been introduced. Lorraine Jones, group HR director at the Law Society, said: "What we are trying to do is to motivate people and to change the culture of the organisation."
Staff will also be given a flex fund worth 3% of base pay to buy perks. The organisation has also introduced pensions salary sacrifice for its defined benefit scheme, which is closed to new members, and its defined contribution (DC) plan. Employer contributions into the DC scheme have been enhanced so it pays double employee contributions up to 7%, and one-and-a-half times on the balance thereafter up to a maximum total contribution of 12.25%.
