Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council plans to introduce a cycle to work scheme through salary sacrifice by the end of this year, following pressure from staff to launch the benefit.

The firm is in an evaluation process with a number of providers to decide which will best meet their needs in delivering the project.

Paul Whitney, pay and benefits manager at the council, said: "I'm hoping for a reasonable take-up. I think it's a very good scheme which complements our green initiatives and will be a useful addition to our employee benefits."

Other salary sacrifice benefits at the council include childcare vouchers.
